Fox & Fig | Café Review | Savannah, GA

Happy Hump Day friends! Today I’m sharing with you my very first restaurant review that I did a collaboration with.  You guys know how much I love cooking/sharing my recipes with you, but food photography and food styling in general has become such a passion of mine.  I was in Savannah a couple of weeks ago and worked with a couple of amazing cafés and restaurants for some food shoots/reviews.  Fox & Fig is a cute little VEGAN café located right in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District.  They have outdoor and indoor seating, which is a HUGE plus in my books.  The café is clean, bright & full of great energy from the hosts.  I was there around 11:30, but by noon it was PACKED.  I think that brunch is definitely very popular here.  My opinion comes straight from the different foods I tried because they were so delicious and to be honest, I did feel like a complete fatass, but whatevs. Keep reading for details on what I thought about individual dishes!

Earl Grey + Lavender Latte & Cappuccino

I loved this latte so much. I’m generally a latte chick over cappuccino; so naturally, I knew I was going to love this foamy goodness.  BUT, this was the first time I had this combination.  I’ve always been a fan of lavender in desserts, so I was really excited for this.  They use a simple syrup that is made in house which means it is FRESH and not that bottled shit! The Cappuccino was great as well… I think that this cafe definitely deserves recognition on their other specialty beverages though!

Cinnamon Roll

I tried the cinnamon roll, and lets be real, I wanted to eat it all. But I forced myself to save some for my friend. It was that good that you feel guilty not sharing with others.  They make these cinnamon rolls at their sister bakery in town!  They literally come out super warm and glazed to perfection 🙂

Tiramisu Mousse Cake

  • The base is made out of dates and walnuts
  • The middle layer is made out of cashews soaked directly in cashew cream
  • Topped off with a house made vegan coconut cream, which tastes even better than whipped cream.
  • They use espresso to make this dessert so each piece has the equivalent of 2 shots. So why have coffee when you can just have cake?!

This Tiramisu Mousse Cake was bomb.  It’s primarily made out of cashews, which I usually hate.  But I really liked this dessert. It tasted very rich but also light as the same time!

Black Chia Seed Porridge

  • Black Chia Seeds
  • Coconut Cream
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Candied Lime Peel
  • Hemp Seeds
  • Agave Nectar

I think this was probably my favorite dish that I tried.  I am a huge fan of chia seeds and I usually make chia seed porridge with almond milk.  But the coconut cream made this so rich and creamy.  Their strawberries and blueberries were so fresh and vibrant.  I love their choice of agave nectar instead of honey because it has a very floral sweetness to it which tastes so well with chia seed porridge! I’m definitely trying to recreate this at home 🙂 Also love the addition of hemp seeds for a crunch since the dish is soft.

Garlic Herb Flatbread

  • House made Italian Sausage
  • Caramelized Onions
  • Arugula
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Cashew Mozzarella
  • Roasted Garlic Pesto

It was my first time ever having cashew mozzarella and I couldn’t believe how similar it is to real cheese.  I’m clearly BIG on cheese but I wouldn’t mind eating cashew mozzarella more often than the regular kind! The house made Italian sausage was very flavorful and had a bit of a kick to it.  Sometimes fake meat tastes rubbery and dry, but this was cooked just right.  Roasted garlic pesto was the glue that held this flatbread together.  This was amazing!

Tostadas Verdes

  • Hemp Seeds
  • Avocado Smash
  • Salsa Verde
  • Pickled Red Onion
  • Microgreens

Love the concept of this. It reminds me of a Mexican version of avocado toast. It’s so flavorful and the pickled onions on top literally makes it bombtastic.  The bread is so perfectly crunchy and the dish is garnished with a squeeze of fresh lime on top 🙂 This is another dish that I’m definitely going to try to recreate!

Something that I’m especially excited to share with you is that one of the servers who works at Fox & Fig creates different hot sauce recipes, bottles them up, and serves/sells them at the cafe. I tried one called “Red, Red Tony” hot sauce. It was 9/10 in spice and it was AMAZING. Unfortunately, Greg (the hot sauce master chef) makes a few batches at a time so he did not have extra bottles.  I ended up buying a different one that was 8/10 in spice and that was still really REALLY good!  All of the ingredients are listed on the bottle and he always gives them funny names.  I was also told that he only uses Georgia or South Carolina Peppers in all of his sauces which is super cool because you know he’s using the best/freshest ingredients that are locally grown. Check out his Instagram page at @gregsfamous for more info on his house sauces and definitely hit him up in you’re interested!! They are only $9 and worth every single drop 😉

If you are from Savannah, visiting Savannah, or know anybody who is planning on traveling there, please share this post and stay tuned for more food reviews in the downtown area!
